Welcome to the Wisconsin Pain Initiative Web Site


The WPI is dedicated to overcoming the barriers that prevent the relief of pain.  It is a voluntary, grass-roots organization of health care professionals and representatives of higher education and government.

The Wisconsin Pain Initiative traces its roots to the Wingspread conference held in Madison in 1986.

As a member of the Alliance of State Pain Initiatives (ASPI), WPI is a statewide, voluntary grassroots organization composed of nurses, physicians , pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, educator, and representatives of clergy and government. WPI works to disseminate accurate pain management information, educate healthcare professionals, raise public and patient awareness of cancer and non-cancer pain problems, promote institutional change, and advocate for the removal of regulatory and legislative barriers to pain management.
